The first and most important thing for you to do is to follow through. Just go.
I’ve seen it so many times. It even happened to me. There will always be a new excuse for you to not start. Nobody to go with? On a tight budget?
You really just need to pull the trigger and get something started. After things are in motion you’ll see how much easier it gets. Then for your second trip, you’ll wonder what you were ever worried about.
Unfortunately I do not travel full time. I would love to. But for now I still maintain a full time job and work forty or more hours per week.
I work very hard for it. I also work a job that affords me far more vacation than the average American.
I do! I travel with a very quick pace and tend to push against other people telling me where to go or what to see.
It’s for this reason that I try to avoid larger tours beyond a day trip.
If I do book a tour it’s going to be for a good reason. My ride along the Trans-Siberian Railway is the best example of this. The logistics of planning that trip just got to be such a headache.
A large motivator for me in everything has always been other people.
Either when they’re unhelpful despite their ability to easily help, or when they’re negative and tell me I can’t or shouldn’t do something.
With blogging, I once asked one of the most popular bloggers a question on instagram. “Mr. Always Smiling, Always Helpful”
He left me on read. Would have taken him half a second to respond and that has always irritated me.
Don’t advertise yourself as one thing and not follow through.
Nope. I always keep myself busy and I almost always meet people if I’m looking to.
I’ve only had one instance where I thought it would be nice to have someone with me and regretted not. That was in Mürren.
Yes. Use common sense. Follow the advice of locals. If you’re in a bad area, don’t flash your stuff. Also train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for five years.
This is getting harder and harder to answer so I now break it up by categories.
Favorite country for the scenery: Switzerland
Favorite country for adventure: Tanzania
Favorite city: Prague, London, Budapest in that order.
This is always difficult to answer.
I’m not the type to set firm plans. I’ll have a general idea of a few places that I’d like to go, but until it’s physically booked, it’s usually up in the air.
